Before I start, I have to say that in all honesty, I have no idea whether there is anyone at all interested in this kind of scenario – I think, however, that it could potentially be quite interesting, and if you feel like we could be compatible, I’d be more than happy to see your message.

 

In any case – I am an experienced roleplayer, and my focus is on writing historical romantic fiction between male characters. I particularly enjoy the 19^(th) century, especially its later decades running up to the year 1900, that is, the 1870s to 1890s. The reasons of my passion for this era are numerous, from the great narrative potential its society, deeply troubled yet brimming with potential and opportunity and an air of change and progress, offers to a story, to more superficial ones like its aesthetic qualities, from industrial landscapes to personal fashion of men and women alike.

Historical roleplay writing is, for me, a very interesting way to attempt to recreate a long gone past and reimagine potential lives led, with a focus on realism. Not excessively so, mind you, none of us is a walking encyclopaedia, but I enjoy historical fiction for history, not as an aesthetical window dressing for a steampunk mystery or a medieval fantasy.

What I don’t have a lot of experience with, however, is a scenario featuring complete and realistic feminization of one of the originally male characters. Long ago, I have posted a prompt to search for a partner to write that kind of story with me, but unfortunately, I have found out two things… The first is about me: I realized I don’t simply prefer historical settings and plots; I actually don’t enjoy modern day settings. Writing stories is a form of escapism, and there isn’t a lot of escapism for me in simply taking the world as is and simply inserting my characters in it. No shade for those who enjoy it, it just isn’t for me!

The second thing is that, sadly, it turned out that there is a lot of people who’d love to play a feminized character, but the majority treated it mostly as a way to get off in the moment, rather than wanting to delve into a more thorough and long-term exploration of the issues of identity, romance, traditional gender roles and values, societal taboos, et cetera, et cetera… Without meaning to sound pretentious in any way, I put a lot of effort in my writing, and I would appreciate a partner who puts a similar amount into theirs. I like writing longer messages, a few paragraphs per post, but naturally, quality is more relevant here than quantity. It is also important to mention I write in 3^(rd) person, past tense.

 

I know, I know – you must have noticed. On one hand, I talk about history, historical accuracy and realism in storytelling, on the other, I mention a scenario involving a complete gender transition in times where that simply wasn’t a medical option. That is very much the reason for why I haven’t yet written a prompt of this kind, but I think this could be the one thing I can lower my standards of realism for the sake of a story, without changing much else. Thus, if we choose a scenario in Victorian England, we wouldn’t be creating a world where reassignment surgery is common – but rather a world where this is available as an experimental and expensive treatment. For another example, in a medieval scenario (yes, I mostly focus on the 19^(th) century, but I wouldn’t be opposed to crafting a story set around, say, the Crusades or any other period of history…) we could involve a difficult to obtain herbal medicine with similar effects. There’s a lot of possibilities!

I don’t have a specific plot on mind right now, but if you look at my profile, you will see a few of my prompts which were written with an MxM pairing in mind, but which could easily be adapted and reimagined. My preference for playing a romantic, slice-of-life roleplay on the background of historical events remains steadfast, though, as does my enjoyment of writing for heavily masculine and mature male characters.
