Basic plot summary:

The kingdom has been at war for the last five years. It pushed to conquer a territory north of their border, and had done so effectively. Victory means money, resources, and promotions for the knights who led the charges to claim land for the king.

Our dear Knight is one of those privileged few. He has a reputation on the battlefield and amongst the kingdom for his efficiency. He is known for his aptitude with strategy, and a long string of victories in battle. The "golden boy" of the kingdom's forces.... and now he has been offered a new job! The king has personally selected the man to serve as a body guard and advisor to him. He has been taken into the king's court- promised land, money, anything within reach so long as he works hard and stays focused.

That is incredibly hard to do when some twinky, slutty little man in a jingly hat is constantly flirting with him. The Jester is a trickster, a mischievous pet to the king. His opinion as an advisor is trusted, and the king seems to favor him some. He is fed well, given an allowance, allowed to stay in the palace... and now, he gets to tease the newest member of court with *seemingly* no consequences.
