Simple as that really. They go on walks together, MC figures out that the way to her heart is through her dog so he spends time getting to know the dog well while she just watches with a smile.

I want the MC to be somewhat cut off from others, either by choice or not. Maybe he lives in the middle of the forest and only visits the local village when he has to or maybe he's a hermit that lives in a cave in the Himalayans.
