The adult Agent Simmons calling the teenage Mikaela Banes "hot" in Transformers (2007).

If you've even heard about 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction, you are very likely aware of the infamous plot point involving a 20-year-old man dating a 17-year-old and the writing contorting itself in knots to explain why this is okay.

This aspect of the film has rightly been trashed since the film's release, but it wasn't exactly unprecedented in this film series. The above scene is from the first Michael Bay-directed Transformers movie from 2007 in which Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) are being interrogated by Sector-7 agent Seymour Simmons (John Turturro) in regards to their involvement with the Transformers. When Mikaela starts getting snarky with him, Simmons the reveals her father's criminal history, threatens to have him locked away forever and also calls her "hot" because she's a criminal. Mikaela is a teenager.

And lest you think this is a one-off moment, the sequel has a scene in which he mentions how "mature" Mikaela is (@1:15). During Dark of the Moon, the third film, he repeatedly hits on Charlotte Mearing (Frances McDormand), whom he had a fling with in the past but is clearly not interested in rekindling anything with him. This is only slightly less creepy than his interactions with Mikaela since Mearing is much older.

Long and short of it, if the "Romeo and Juliet" thing from Age of Extinction is a surprise to you, just remember which film series they were part of.
